John Merrill is a Contributing Editor of Biblical Archaeology Review. He has sponsored and participated in numerous archaeological investigations of ancient Israel, with emphasis on the Hasmonean, Herodian, and Roman periods. 

Hershel Shanks is the late Editor Emeritus of Biblical Archaeology Review and the founder of the Biblical Archaeology Society.
